The fire on April 12, 1996 killed 16 people and injured more than 100.<\/p>\n<p>In early 1997, the architects of JSK Perkins &amp; Will were appointed to design the new terminal, a design that won the competition and was selected for &#8220;with the largest expansion potential, both in air and on land, to be implemented in various stages \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>The airport remained decisively operational throughout the works.
